IMMIGRATION COURT JUDGES have the power to deport a non-citizen (also known as “removal”) or to grant legal status based on relationships, facts, and the applications that are made to the Court. Deportation has serious consequences, often preventing a non-citizen from re-entering the United States for a significant period of time or never, depending on the particular findings that a judge may make. Equally a judge may make specific findings which allow a non-citizen to obtain permanent or temporary residence, based on the testimony presented and other facts that are allowed. Because of the many consequences, it is strongly recommended that you obtain an experienced attorney to help you to understand and hopefully succeed in an immigration court proceeding.
